  • Lake Tawaera Hiking (four-five hours) Difficulty hard - Full DayPlants in the Lake Tarawera Scenic Reserve have regenerated since the 1886 Mount Tarawera eruption which dramatically changed the landscape.
  • Okere Falls Forest trails (kayaking optional)
    A well-formed bushwalk with scenic lookouts over Okere River
    and its spectacular waterfalls, the Okere Falls and the Tutea Falls,
    as well as the remains of the hydro-electric power station, can be
    found on Trout Pool Road. There are car parks and toilets at both
    ends of the 30 minute walk, which starts at Okere Falls, passes
    Tutea Falls about halfway, and finishes at Trout Pool Falls.
  • Maketu Beach - Fish - Hike Half or Full - Oceanfront cabins optional
    Maketu Beach is where Maori first came ashore on their waka
    voyage from Polynesia to the Bay of Plenty. A great place to
    swim, surf, fish and gather shellfish at low tide. When you visit
    Maketu beach you feel as though you’re stepping back
    in time.
  • Kaiate Falls/Mclaren Falls Park
    with a swimming hole, picnic area & scenic views.

  • Rapurapu Kauri Track - Half day
    This track features mature tawa/podocarp forest
    with many fern species in the understorey, a stream
    with swimming holes and
    three impressive kauri
    trees that are growing near their southern limit.
  • Hobbiton Movie Set & Rotorua Wonderland
    Rotorua, a town set on its namesake lake on New
    Zealand's North Island is renowned for its
    geothermal activity and Maori culture. Hobbiton
    and the amazing geothermal wonderland of
    Rotorua, including Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal
    Park, a spectacular showcase of New Zealand’s
    most colourful and unique geothermal elements
    sculpted by thousands of years of volcanic activity,
    considered one of the most surreal places on earth.
